Oral history interview with Roseann W. Siegel, 1989.

Mrs. Siegel recalls the staff and organizational structure of the grantmaking staff of Glenmede/Pew during the latter half of the 1980s, reflecting on the profound changes in the organization, staff, expectations and policies that resulted from the physical separation of the investment and grantmaking sections. She discusses at length the origins and workings of the Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences, the first four Scholars meetings, the first evaluation of the Program, and the oral history project associated with it. She also recalls the origin of the Pew Latin American Fellows Program in the Biomedical Sciences and the Health Sciences Libraries Consortium.

Roseann Siegel was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When she was five years old her family moved to the Philadelphia suburbs. She is Irish-Catholic. She attended a convent school near Yardley, Pennsylvania. She took her bachelor's degree from Duquesne University in sociology and psychology and her master's degree from the Pennsylvania State University in public administration. Rebecca Webster Rimel was born in 1951 in Charlottesville, Virginia. She has one brother. She took her bachelor's (nursing) and master's (MBA) degrees from the University of Virginia. For several years she worked in neurosurgery at the University of Virginia, where she did research on minor head injuries. In 1983 she joined the Pew Charitable Trusts.
